MARCH THE TWENTY-FIFTH (2011)

For Woodwind Quartet (Fl, Ob, Cl, Bsn) with Narrator

Duration ca. 10:00

PROGRAM NOTES

March the Twenty-Fifth is a quasi-theater piece that follows an unlucky bond analyst through the unpleasant realization that his wife is having an affair. The musical composition uses the action of the story as its formal basis; interlocking metric modulations push the tempo faster and faster as the action mounts, then slower as the action diminishes. The piece can be staged a number of ways - the narrator is instructed only to “utilize the space, and appear unexpectedly if possible.”

Written for the 2011 Atlantic Music Festival. Premiered by musicians from the Atlantic Music Festival at Colby College Chapel, Waterville, ME (July 2011).
