MEGALOPOLIS (2017)

For Ten Saxophones (2.3.2.2.1)

Duration ca. 4:00

PROGRAM NOTES

Megalopolis was composed for the Megalopolis Saxophone Orchestra (MSO), a conglomerate of gifted saxophonists from up and down the East coast of the United States. In recognition of the group’s name - as well as the very real urban sprawl which more or less attaches Boston to Washington, D.C. - I wrote a piece that focuses on the energy and vibrance of large cities. A thread of unbroken sixteenth notes permeates the entire work (with only one exception), which I hope imbues the piece with some of the driving vitality of my own beloved NYC.

Commissioned and premiered by the Megalopolis Saxophone Orchestra. Premiered at Beveridge Hall, Wellesley, MA (April 2017)
