Senescence is a setting of three poems by author and poet Chrissy Kolaya. Each of the texts deals, in its own way, with the concept of growing older. The pieces three movements are by turns weary, whimsical, and rambunctious - but ultimately, the closing measures attempt to capture the transcendent uncertainty of moving away from one life and towards another.
Commissioned by Lyric Arts Trio and Dr. Jessica Speak. Premiered by Lyric Arts Trio as part of Kansas Public Library’s Live Day, Kansas City, MO (October 2024).
